Where is the best venue for a boho wedding in Mexico?

There’s Mexico—and then there is Tulum. For couples who appreciate the finer avenues of life, this coastline town on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is breathtaking. Destination weddings in Tulum are characterized by a dreamy mix of historical ruins, culture touches and some of the best beaches in the country. Especially if you’re part of a twosome who wants to make their marital celebration vacation for their guests, there are plenty of options in the surrounding area that make it easy to fill their days. From exploring the ruins of the ancient Mayan port city, complete with the renowned El Castillo on a rocky cliff, to the Parque Nacional Tulum where they can dive into cenotes, adventures are everywhere.

When is the best time of year to get married in Tulum?

Sure, it’s lucky to have a rain shower on your wedding day, but if you’d prefer to avoid it, skip June, September and October, as they host the most rain. For privacy and a low-key vibe for your destination wedding in Tulum, don’t book your wedding from January through March, when crowds are at their peak. The best time is right after hurricane season, October through December.

If having one of those destination weddings in Tulum is high on your consideration list, here is everything you need to know as you plan, as well as the top wedding venues.

The Best Tulum Wedding Venues

If you're planning a destination wedding in Tulum, one of the first steps is finding the right Tulum wedding venue. Check out a few of our favourite Tulum wedding venues:

The Sian Ka’an at Grand Tulum

Make your list of what you hope for out of your big day. Barefoot on the beach? Check. An all-inclusive so everyone in your family and friends can afford the getaway? Check. Sunsets that’ll fascinate every single Instagram post? Done. For one of the top venue picks for destination weddings in Tulum, consider Sian Ka’an. No matter if you’d like a simple ceremony or something lavish, they have an option that caters to each couple. They also feature a bilingual wedding expert onsite to take care of every last detail so you can spend more time enjoying the experience. If you want something out of the box? No worries. But you can also pick from their six different pre-planned wedding packages, too, all of which include various elements, like decorations, cake, music, photography, menus and more.

Zoetry Villa Rolandi Isla Mujeres Cancun

Zoetry Villa Rolandi is where you need to be if you want a wedding that is luxurious, intimate and oozing with romance. There is no better place to start your lives together as husband and wife than in one of their 35 oceanfront luxury suites. Spend your time with friends and family getting rejuvenated with seaside yoga, the complimentary use of their yacht for activities, and indulging in gourmet meals. At the end of the day, watch the sunset over Cancun from the privacy of your own beachfront terrace jacuzzi.

Start your wedding day off on the right note by pampering yourself with luxurious spa services at the Thalasso Spa. Then get gorgeous with your girls at their onsite salon.

You can choose to get married on the beach in an intimate ceremony under the gazebo or say “I Do” on their private pier. With a poolside gourmet meal to follow and beachfront reception, there’s no wonder that this venue is the premier wedding resort on Isla Mujeres.

Secret Jewel Celebrations Venue

We recently shot our first wedding at Secret Jewel Celebrations Venue, and were blown away! We looked at each other and said: “How have we never heard of this place?” This location was literally made for destination weddings!

Situated halfway between Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, hidden between the endless corridor of resorts, this a convenient option if you are staying closer to the airport. Tucked between the lush jungle and a private bay, this venue boasts a proper bridal suite to get ready, a huge sandy area among the palm trees for your barefoot reception, and even a small beachfront chapel. You have all the creature comforts and luxury you could want, and best of all – you have privacy!

Live Aqua Cancun

In the middle of the city's hotel zone, the sleek, adults-only Live Aqua Cancun resort, with its streamlined decor, international cuisine and house DJ, is a hip departure from neighbouring hotels. A poolside terrace (seats 100) overlooking the Caribbean Sea makes the perfect ceremony spot and receptions wow on the beach or in one of 10 banquet halls.

Nizuc Resort & Spa, Cancun

Nizuc Resort & Spa was built in March 2013 with the intention of topping every other luxury resort in Cancun. The 274-suite hotel, located on a secluded estate that was once a private hideaway for Mexico's president, hosts vows on a terrace adjacent to Bar A-Kan.

Las Caletas, Puerto Vallarta

A private beach cove located an hour by boat from the Puerto Vallarta mainland. Las Caletas is the perfect secluded Eden for barefoot-chic weddings. Intimate ceremonies for up to 80 take place at water's edge, while ocean-view receptions occur in the Spanish-tiled, open-air restaurant. Enjoy dancing and a bonfire on the beach, and then keep the party going on the boat ride back.

Martoca Beach Garden, Riviera Nayarit

With three sparkling pools, a palm-lined beach, and expansive ocean and mountain views, Martoca Beach Garden in Bucerias, along Banderas Bay, is the perfect spot for nature-loving couples. Follow a beach ceremony with a poolside cocktail hour and sunset reception for 15 to 300 guests.

Privilege Aluxes Isla Mujeres Mexico

Privilege Aluxes is a gorgeous resort big enough to accommodate all of your wedding guests, while still maintaining that stress-free island vibe to make your celebration feel warm and welcoming. Whatever you are dreaming of to make your stay special, they can help bring to life. From excursions and activities to flowers and details. Let them cover your ‘To Do’s’ so you can just focus on saying ‘I Do!’

Offering world-class spa services, so you can pamper yourselves on the morning of your wedding, and then head over to the onsite salon to get gorgeous! Get married on the beach under the gently swaying palm trees, and then celebrate Mexican-style with the Mariachi and a pinata! Round out your Best Day Ever by dining Al Fresco with your toes in the sand on your wedding night, as the ocean waves serenade you and your wedding guests.

Oscar & Lalos

When you met your now spouse-to-be, you knew he or she was different from all the rest. And when you consider the vast amount of options for destination weddings in Tulum, you want an option that sets apart from other passport-required affairs. Enter: the one and only Oscar & Lalos. Here, you can have a traditional beachside wedding with the sunset as your main background, or you can have a truly unique ceremony fifty feet underground in a cave. Talk about jaw-dropping! The resort can hosts up to 100 guests, and features a team of florists, chefs, entertainment and transportation companies as well as photographers, to capture every last second.

Na Balam Beach Resort

Situated on the idyllic Playa Norte on Isla Mujeres’ north end, Na Balam Beach Resort boasts the best beach on the island. Soft ivory sand, and half a mile of shallow turquoise sea perfect for sipping and sunning the days away. Every afternoon dozens of boats drop anchor off of Playa Norte to see and be seen. It is lively, and if you are travelling with a group who like to have fun, then this is a fabulous location.

On the other hand, the resort itself has a peaceful zen vibe to it, with rustic contemporary rooms, and a professional yoga studio with regular classes. This is a chic eco-resort to accommodate your guests and a great place to recharge your batteries. Rest easy knowing that as far as spectacular backdrops for getting married on the beach go, there are few better than this.

Vista de la Luz Caribbean Luxury Villa

On Isla Mujeres’ rustic south end, perched on the cliffs high above the warm turquoise sea, and offering spectacular panoramic views of the sun setting over Cancun, is the island’s most sophisticated luxury villa, Vista de la Luz. This is a fabulous location if privacy is a top priority for your wedding.

With four sumptuous suites, this piece of paradise is best suited to accommodate more intimate wedding groups, or can simply be used as an impressive off-resort wedding venue. We adore the private dock with covered palapa as a jaw-dropping location for your wedding ceremony, and the vaulted terrace over the suspended infinity pool makes a magical backdrop for the post-nuptials celebration. A wedding here is sure to be one that your guests will never forget!

Grand Coral Riviera Maya

A hop, skip and a jump north of Playa del Carmen is the community of Grand Coral, a peaceful area popular with golfers and holidaymakers. At the bottom of the community’s meandering road lined with palm trees, sits the Grand Coral Beach Club. This wedding venue has been a long time favourite of ours. There are several great resorts right on the doorstep, making wedding plans easy if you want to vacation in or around lively Playa del Carmen, without travelling too far on your wedding day.

The Grand Coral is a contemporary style beach club where you can get married with your toes in the sand, and then party the night away around their oceanside infinity pool. The facilities are impeccable, and the service is excellent.

Capitan Dulche Isla Mujeres

Capitan Dulche is an exclusive beach club with its own private white sand beach that’s perfect for your barefoot wedding. Not to worry if your RSVP list is a big one, this is an ideal large event location with ample outdoor space and beautifully manicured gardens for your guests to mix and mingle. Add to that the attraction of their award-winning onsite maritime museum, and you have the perfect setting for a ‘Uniquely You’ wedding celebration.

Kore Tulum Retreat & Spa Resort

They say when you meet the love of your life, the attraction is natural. Whether you know from the first date or the tenth, something about that person draws you to them, unquestionably. You might call it animalistic to an extent, making a jungle-themed destination wedding a subtle nod to your pheromones. Consider making your lifelong promise to one another at the Kore Tulum Retreat & Spa Resort, located inside the legendary National Park of Tulum, surrounded by endless types of trees, flowers and wildlife. Because it’s also located on the Caribbean Sea, you’ll get a mix of land and water, making for a small romantic getaway for you and your intimate party. Or, if you want a bigger to-do, they also have an indoor option available, complete with scenic views.

Ak’iin Tulum

The Ak’iin Beach Club in Tulum, Mexico, has topped our list for years now because it is hands down one of the best locations for your beach wedding. If you are a bride lucky enough to book this venue, we promise that it will absolutely exceed your expectations.

The Ak’iin delivers everything you would expect from the boho-chic town of Tulum. It is rustic yet modern. Lush yet contemporary. It is located between the wild Mayan jungle and the turquoise Caribbean Sea, and the massive stretch of opalescent beach it sits on gives you enough space to plan whatever kind of beach wedding your heart desires! There couldn’t be a more romantic backdrop than Tulum for getting married on the beach. And with the excellent catering and impeccable service offered at The Ak’iin, this location is an easy choice for beach weddings.

If you were to classify the vibe of Tulum, it’d definitely be boho-chic. For brides who care about effortless style, there isn’t a better option than the Ak'iin Tulum. Here, you can find the best of every world—rustic, yet modern. Contemporary but lavish. Sandwiched between the crisp breeze of the Caribbean Sea on a white-sandy beach and the Mayan jungle, you’ll be part of nature as you marry the person who makes you feel the most like yourself. They are among the top-rated in the area for culinary arts, so foodie couples will also appreciate and savour the spices and flavours.

Sanara Tulum

A luxury eco-friendly boutique hotel in Tulum, this is a dreamy little villa that would be the perfect spot to celebrate. They have a gorgeous restaurant and rooftop terrace that you can style up perfectly for your wedding reception!

Villa La Joya

One of our new favourite off-resort wedding venues is a private residence north of Playa del Carmen on Playa Paraiso, called Villa La Joya. This location offers privacy amidst the hustle and bustle of resorts surrounding it. You can get married in the garden, or on the beach with your toes in the sand. Then you will party the night away poolside on the beachfront terrace.

As professional wedding photographers, we especially love this location because of all the amazing photo ops! Yes, of course, you will have the beach for wedding photos, but add to that the villa’s majestic staircase, immaculate gardens and traditional Mexican motif, and Boom! You have a diverse and dreamy combination for your wedding photos.

Be Tulum Hotel

There are some couples who obsess over every plate, colour, speech and moment. And there are others, perhaps like you, who want to follow the philosophy of simplicity. If you’re in the latter group, consider one of the top-rated spots by travellers and host your wedding at Be Tulum. In this mostly-suites hotel, you can choose from indoor or outdoor ceremonies, for up to 100 guests. And if you’re a seafood fan, they have specific menus featuring only the best of locally-caught and prepared fish. Thanks to its location only six miles away from the Tulum ruins, you can also treat your guests to witnessing a bit of history from Mexico, too.

Dreams Tulum

As the name suggests, your every wish and whim will be met at one of the top venues for destination weddings in Tulum. Unlike other boutique properties in the region, Dreams Tulum has a vast amount of land to host any-and-every type of ceremony. Here, you choose from indoor and outdoor venues, from The Secret Garden in the jungle to beachside affairs with your feet in the sand. You can use the ballroom for dancing or restaurants, depending on your preference as a twosome. Even though it’s a grand property, they offer specific packages for small weddings, making it ideal for those who want to keep it intimate and private.

Loyal Order

This modern, hip, and still very dreamy Mediterranean/Aegean/Turkish restaurant would be perfect for a laid back wedding with up to fifty guests or a cocktail-style dinner wedding with up to 200 guests. I love the vibe of this venue and paired with a gorgeous beachfront (think white sands and teal water!) ceremony, and it would be perfect for a hip, modern, and totally delicious restaurant wedding.

Blue Venado Beach Club

Just south of Playa del Carmen is Punta Venado, a wild and rugged bay that is a little different from what you would expect from the Riviera Maya and offers more privacy thanks to its off-the-beaten-path location. A rugged dirt road winds through the jungle, ending at the Blue Venado Beach Club. By day, the area plays host to adventurous tourists offering activities like jet skiing, ATVing, horseback riding, and mountain biking. But as the heat of the day subsides, it transforms into the perfect beach wedding location, with a backdrop of palapas and crashing waves.

Get married barefoot on the beach, and then retire under the giant palapa for your wedding reception. And if you want magical sunset wedding photos on a horse, this is the place to do it!

Chiringuito

This jungle wedding venue has thirteen rooms and is a total Mediterranean-style boutique stay. Host up to 60 guests for your ceremony and reception (there are gardens, a pool terrace and rooftop, and a beautiful restaurant space). It’s right on the beach, and it would be the perfect spot to host a weekend of fun.

Mia Restaurant & Beach Club

When it comes to destination weddings in Tulum, you don’t have to only pick from resorts, but other venues, too. In fact, hosting your grand affair at a restaurant or beach club, like this one, allows guests to book their stay at any hotel that is within their budget. For couples who are particular about their reception dinner, Mia Restaurant & Beach Club offers a contemporary and international culinary experience that’ll satisfy your high standards. It’s considered fine dining and features more than 200 bottles of wine. You can host your wedding on the beach at sunset, then head inside to the 1,000-square foot space that’s ideal for parties of any size. As a bonus, the onsite wedding planner will handle the details so you can live in the moment.

Nest Tulum

Rent out the whole property for a private and gorgeous wedding weekend on the beach. White sands, a four-bedroom villa, and nine other beautifully decorated guest rooms, plus a lovely restaurant space for your reception. Earthy and bohemian, this private property along a gorgeous beach is a stunning spot for your wedding!

Casa Malca

If instead of a mega-resort, you crave the boutique-feel of a home-away-home, you’ll appreciate the finesse and style of Casa Malca. This small property specializes in bite-sized weddings, allowing couples the opportunity to rent out the entire property for their intimate affair. From fine dining and artisan cocktails to an Instagram-worthy pool and beach, here, you and your guests will get swept away with the effortless charm.

Casa Violeta

A popular wedding venue on the beach! A white sand ceremony and a reception under beachy thatched roofs. Hip, classy, and laid back all at once.

When it comes to Mexican destination weddings, most brides head to the beach. But if you’re looking for a good bohemian theme which to share your vows, consider these venues.

Our team is ready to assist in selecting venues, dining menu, and luxury accommodations for you and your guests.
