Frequently Asked Questions

Most places of worship are now able to hold funeral services - with certain restrictions in place. Please speak to your funeral director for further details.

Those who are self-isolating should arrange a funeral over the phone or via email, wherever possible. If a funeral must be arranged in person, please respect the social distancing guidance – wear a face covering, keep two metres apart, wash hands frequently, and cough or sneeze into tissue/crook of your elbow.

Please also limit the number of people attending in person to arrange the funeral. Do not arrange a funeral in person if anyone involved has symptoms.

Scattering of ashes is permitted, but check your plans with your funeral director as there are some restrictions - both in terms of where you can scatter them but also, in certain parts of the UK, how many people can attend at present due to COVID-19 restrictions - particularly during the current lock down period.

To send cremated remains abroad, you need to use a special repatriation shipment service. Families are advised to speak to their funeral director for further details.

It is the customary way to recognize death and its finality. Funerals are recognized rituals for the living to show respect for the dead and to help survivors begin the grief process.

Embalming sanitizes andpreserves the body, retards the decomposition process, and enhances the appearance of a body disfigured by traumatic death or illness.

Embalming makes it possible to lengthen the time between death and the final disposition, thus allowing family members time to arrange and participate in the type of service most comforting to them.

Tobin Brothers

Welcome to Tobin Brothers Funerals

Welcome to the Tobin Brothers Funerals website, which we believe provides extensive, clear and practical information about our funeral planning services and options, as well as details of our after-care support services, funeral notices and events.

Suppose you require information in respect to funeral costs or our fixed price funeral plans. In that case, our Funeral Planners will provide an itemized fee proposal outlining all of the services and costs involved with a funeral to reflect the life of your loved one and your family's needs.

This site also features some creative innovations, including a Funeral Notice section with information regarding funerals in Melbourne and Echuca that we are currently or have recently directed, and the ability for friends to send flowers or a message of condolence to those we are serving. The Tribute Candles section even allows people to light an online candle in memory of a loved one or friend.

Our History

Tobin Brothers FuneralsTobin Brothers were founded by brothers Leo, Phone, Thomas and Kevin Tobin in 1934.

The Company flourished in its early years due to the Vision, hard work, and diverse strengths and interests of the four brothers.

Second, third and fourth generation family members have also brought a range of skills and have successfully built on the solid foundation laid by our founders.

Natural Grace

COVID-19 Funerals

Even without a global pandemic, it can be tough when life and death meet. We care for ourselves and honour the person who has died is a gentle and careful balance that needs lots of time and plenty of connection with the people we love. Sadly, much of that has changed under the current restrictions. How and where we can hold funerals. How many people can attend? Having to be physically distant from those that do.*

At Natural Grace, we want to assure you that we can still guide you in creating authentic, sustainable and meaningful funerals for you, your family and your community. We can still have vigils, where you can see your person again; we can still have funerals at selected venues or cemeteries locally or across Melbourne. We can live-stream to those at home or overseas. While social distancing directives still apply, we can always support you in having a meaningful and intimate farewell.

It is very natural to feel anxious.

It's natural to be unsure whether you feel shocked, sad, angry, depressed, relieved, guilty, fearful, or all of these at once. Coping with these feelings is at the heart of the many ways in which we can truly care for the dead, the dying, and for those who are left behind.

Conventional funeral practices work well for many people but may not provide the scope to be as deeply and personally involved as you may need to be. Fortunately, there are many other options available with end-of-life care, and most people simply aren't aware that ceremonies, budgets, caring for the dead, or even transportation methods are not set in stone.

We started Southern Cross Funerals with the express purpose of enabling people to arrange a dignified and fitting service for a loved one without any pressure to choose items beyond their means, a tradition we are very proud of and one that the families appreciate we have helped. The friends we have made along the way.

Hollibone Funerals

The Stages of The Journey

The process of arranging a funeral can be a daunting and emotional one. To help you find the information you need during this difficult time, we have broken up The Funeral Journey into five key stages. Each stage is designed to provide important and relevant information when you need it most.

Remember that no matter what stage of the journey you are in, our team of dedicated and understanding professionals are here 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to guide and support you in any way we can.

Planning Ahead

While no one wants to think about their death, pre-planning your funeral gives you the peace of mind to know that when the time comes, your family will be guided with professional support, providing a much-needed sense of comfort.

Time Of Death

Few of us are prepared when a death occurs, and we often need support and assistance both at the initial time of death and throughout the funeral planning process and continued support as we come to terms with the loss.

Potter's Field

We are excited to launch Potter's Field Funerals, a social enterprise.

At Potter's Field Funerals, we believe in doing things differently. We believe that providing a funeral service is not purely a commercial exchange; it's a community exchange.

Our core philosophy is simple; a belief that getting and giving can be one.

Born from this Vision is a concept in funeral care set to revolutionize the Australian market; a commercial company providing traditional and contemporary funeral care, established solely to run as a social enterprise.

Our core philosophy is simple; a belief that getting and giving can be one.

Potter's Field Funerals is an independently run funeral company trading as a social enterprise. We provide affordable, traditional and contemporary funeral care to all Victorians with the singular purpose being to support the ongoing work of Bereavement Assistance Ltd, Victoria's only non-affiliated, not-for-profit funeral company.

Bereavement Assistance Ltd was established to provide at-cost and charitable funeral care to members of the Victorian community who, due to financial disadvantage, were not able to afford commercial funeral services.

Founded in 1997 by wedding and funeral celebrant Ted Worthington O.A.M., J.P. and Bernard Morey, Bereavement Assistance Ltd was born out of a desire to relieve the financial burden faced by many of the clients they encountered in their work.
